In-Home Behavior Training

Scheduling Alert

Due to high demand, we are currently booked out about three months for in-home training sessions, depending on your location, availability, and training needs.

Private Training: When, What, Where

When is In-Home Behavior Training Needed?

In-Home Training

All training sessions are with a Canine Coach professional trainer. Private, in-home training allows your trainer to provide an individualized plan that is specific to your dog and environment.

Want help teaching your dog to make better choices when walking on a leash? Acknowledge your very existence when outside together (outdoor recall)? Greeting guests at the door?  Saying hello to other dogs? Is your dog barking and growling at new guests in your home? We can help!

We will teach you how to modify these behaviors that happen in the home or wherever you need them. While your initial training session will be in your home (or at a Canine Coach location if you would prefer), your follow up sessions can be held at public locations where more distractions are present.

Private training is an option for individuals and families who are looking for anything from basic obedience training to complex behavior issues such as separation anxiety and aggression. It is also a great option for people who have non-traditional work hours and cannot make it to group classes. Or, if you simply prefer to have more individualized attention than a group class can provide.

Examples of Common Training Topics*:

  • Pre-puppy appointment

  • New dog introductions

  • Basic Obedience

  • House manners: door greetings, jumping, counter surfing

  • Children interactions

  • Cat and Dog harmony in the house

  • Multi-dog household management

  • Aggressive behavior toward family members and/or guests

  • Aggression on walks (leash aggression)

  • Separation Anxiety

  • Resource Guarding

*Please note this is not an exhaustive list. Rest assured, we can help with almost any family dog behavior concern.

What is an Initial In-Home Training Session Like?

During your initial training session, you will sit down with your trainer for a short but comprehensive history of your dog and any training concerns that you may have. Then it’s time to get to work!

From the very first lesson, you will receive and practice training solutions that will make a difference. In addition to hands-on training with your dog and trainer during the initial session, you will also receive specific homework to work through until you can meet with your trainer again.

We also offer Potty Training Phone Consultations! Click here for details.

Follow-Up Training

Recommended follow-up training allows your trainer to ensure that you are skillfully accomplishing the training goals set for you and your dog during your initial session. In a follow up appointment, we can make adjustments to the plan based on how your dog responds to ensure progress towards your unique goals.

While follow-up training is your choice, we feel that multiple sessions will produce the best results.  All follow up appointments are discounted by 20%.  In-home training is popular, so we encourage you to book follow-up sessions at the same time as your initial appointment. This will ensure there are no gaps in your training progress. Remember all sessions are fully refundable if cancelled at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment.

Where Will Your Training Session Take Place?

Initial sessions will be in your home, or if outside our normal training range, at a Canine Coach location. Follow up sessions can be held at your home or in public locations where more distractions are present.

We travel almost the entire Twin Cities metro area. Please see the Pricing & Payment section for more details!

If you live further out in Minnesota (St. Cloud, Duluth, etc), or you are from another state, we would be happy to schedule a private session virtually via Zoom or Skype or at one of our facilities to meet and work with your dog.
